(2) Anesthesia Services. The organization of anesthesia services must be appropriate to the scope of the services offered. Anesthesia must be administered only by: - A qualified anesthesiologist;
- A doctor of medicine or osteopathy (other than an anesthesiologist);
- A dentist, oral surgeon, or podiatrist who is qualified to administer anesthesia under State law;
- A certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA); or
- A graduate registered nurse anesthetist under the supervision of an anesthesiologist who is immediately available if needed

0880-02-.21 Office Based Surgery
10. Assistance of Other Personnel Required. An anesthesiologist or certified registered nurse anesthetist licensed pursuant to Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 63, Chapter 7 and practicing within the lawful scope of that license, must administer the general or regional anesthesia. The anesthesia provider cannot function in any other capacity during the procedure and shall be physically present with the patient at all times during the intra-operative period.
