 RNsSection 6.7: Registered nurse administration of limited levels of sedation or analgesia  (Source: P.A. 94-861, eff. 6-16-06)

  • A registered nurse (RN) may administer medication for moderate sedation provided that it is within the policy of the treatment facility, and that specified training, knowledge, and supervision requirements are met.
  • Registered nurses may only administer medications for moderate sedation at doses that are rapidly reversible pharmacologically (as determined by rule by the Division of Professional Regulation of the Department of Financial and Professional Regulation).
